Personality Assessment
One of the distinctive roles that psychologists have in providing mental health treatment is the ability to perform psychological assessments. The need for psychological assessment arises when a client is not clear on his or her diagnosis and needs this information for a physician, therapist, or for personal clarification. A comprehensive psychological assessment is also conducted when a problem that does not have a physical origin is noticed and the cause needs to be determined.
Psychoeducational testing can be completed for elementary, middle, high school or college in which accommodations may be needed due to a learning disorder or ADHD. Learning Disability Assessments can determine the extent of learning difficulties.
Personality, Emotional and Behavioral Functioning assessments can identify treatment needs, identify issues that may come up in treatment, clarify diagnosis and personality traits, recommend particular forms of intervention, and offer guidance about potential outcomes of treatment.
All assessments are comprehensive and will include:
- A Review of developmental, medical, behavioral and family history
- A clinical interview
- Review of results of other psychological evaluations and academic history if applicable
- Individual testing in areas such as cognitive abilities, attention, achievement, and emotional/behavioral functioning
- A comprehensive report that includes answers to your specific questions, identification of strengths and weaknesses, diagnoses, educational/vocational implications, and recommendations
- A one hour feedback session with a licensed psychologist
